Adult programs cover a variety of topics from World War II to the technological advancements of space flight. These programs are suitable for college, adult, senior or community groups. Both on-site and virtual options are available.
All on-site guided programs are 60 minutes in duration unless otherwise noted. Programs are subject to availability, may be reserved for groups of 15 and must be made at least two weeks before the desired date of the visit.
Learn about Intrepid’s history from World War II up to the Vietnam War, including historical details about aircraft carrier operations. Hear stories about the men who served aboard Intrepid, and see artifacts from the Museum’s collection as you explore the hangar deck and flight deck of the ship.
Learn about past, present and future ventures in space travel as you examine some of the Museum's major artifacts. Discover Intrepid’s connection to the United States' early spaceflight programs Mercury and Gemini. Get a look at Enterprise, the first space shuttle, while hearing about the triumphs and tragedies of the space shuttle program. And see a Russian Soyuz capsule that flew to the International Space Station.
These 60 minute explorations of the Museum are specifically designed for learners with developmental or learning disabilities. Educators customize programs to the goals, interests and needs of each group. All groups receive pre-visit materials including a social narrative and visual vocabulary. Program themes include, but are not limited to:
Life at Sea
Learn what it took to be one of the approximately 3,000 crew members living aboard the aircraft carrier Intrepid. This program focuses on the living conditions and wide variety of jobs that were needed for a "city at sea."
Aviation & Aircraft
Discover the four forces of flight and how an airplane flies in the sky. This program explores the Museum’s extensive aircraft collection.
Transportation
Compare the different ways humans can travel on water, in the air and into space! This program examines the design and function of the ship, aircraft and spacecraft.
Space
Uncover Intrepid's role in the early space program. Explore the space shuttle Enterprise, replica space capsules and the night sky.
Funding is available for free All Hands programs for NYC-based organizations serving adults with disabilities, including day habilitation programs, social groups and residential programs. Funding is also available for free programs for organizations primarily serving veterans and military families. Inquire when making your reservation request.
Virtual programs for adult groups are perfect for community centers, libraries, senior centers or any private group of adults can book an engaging virtual program with our knowledgeable Museum educators. Programs may include Google Arts & Culture tours of the Museum, archival photographs from the collection, and lively question and answer sessions.

Passenger drop-off and pick-up must be made inside the parking lot on the northbound side of 12th Avenue, between 45th and 46th streets across from the Museum. The entrance to the lot is on 12th Avenue (West Side Highway). Please use this lot for drop-off, pick-up, and if needed, parking your bus or motor coach.
Please note that the NYC Department of Transportation DOES NOT PERMIT buses and motor coaches to drop-off or pick-up passengers on the southbound side of 12th Avenue in front of the Museum.
